This piece is inspired by the wind dancers themselves, ocotillo.  These special desert plants have an emotional relationship with the winds that blow through them constantly.  Elegant and peaceful at times and fierce and unrelenting at others. The lines of the lamp are meant to represent the dance, the movement, the give and take that the arms of the ocotillo experience when interacting with the desert winds. The shadows in the negative space are also reminiscent of the shadows cast from the sun on to the desert floor during the height of the day.

This lamp is part of a series that was dreamt up while participating in an artist residency at Willow House in Terlingua, Texas.

10.5” in height to harp base.  Wired by D & W lighting in Austin, Texas.
